Christmas Markets Near Colmar: Which Village to Choose and How to Get There

Eight village markets, each on its own calendar. Which ones are open on your dates, and how to reach them without a car.

At Christmas, markets open in eight villages and small towns around Colmar, and each keeps its own schedule. Kaysersberg runs for just four weekends, Ribeauvillé for two, Neuf-Brisach for one. So you pick a village by the calendar: day of the week first, everything else second.

The easiest plan is to stay in Colmar itself and visit the villages in the afternoon. In December special shuttles leave from the town's train station, which leaves the morning free for Colmar. You can spend it with the TouringBee audio guide: 27 stops through the old town, about an hour and a half, no group and no set start time. Everything worth knowing about the town before your trip is in our complete guide to Colmar.

Colmar's own six markets have an article of their own: Colmar Christmas markets. This one covers only what lies outside town.

Most village markets aren't open every day in December. If your trip falls on a Wednesday, Kaysersberg and Ribeauvillé are automatically off the list, and the only shuttle left is the one to Eguisheim. Dates and hours for 2026:

Which village to choose

How the markets differ, and how to reach each one without a car.

Eguisheim

Eguisheim's market is officially called the Marché de Noël authentique: about thirty craftspeople and makers, with musicians strolling through the village center and along the old walls every day. It carries the "Villes et Villages de Noël" label, which recognizes markets that focus on local traditions and heritage.

Getting there: shuttle line 3, the only one that also runs on weekdays. Year-round, the regular FLUO 68R030 bus runs Colmar – Eguisheim – Rouffach.

Kaysersberg

The craft market (Marché de Noël artisanal et authentique) fills the Cour de l'Arsenal and the area behind the Sainte-Croix church. Next to it is a small market of local producers, the place to go for regional food.

Getting there: shuttle lines 1 and 2. The stop isn't in the center but at the Parking de la 5e DB in neighboring Kientzheim.

Riquewihr

A traditional Christmas market (Marché de Noël traditionnel), and it isn't confined to one square: the streets and façades themselves are decorated and lit, and Christmas shops are open all over the village.

Getting there: Friday to Sunday, shuttle lines 1 and 2, stop on Rue du Stade. On weekdays, the regular FLUO 68R016 bus runs Colmar – Riquewihr – Ribeauvillé.

Turckheim

The elves' market (Marché des Lutins) is held on the town hall square, where local craftspeople sell their work.

Getting there: TER train on the Colmar–Metzeral line; Friday to Sunday, also shuttle line 4.

The night watchman. In December Turckheim keeps up the traditional round of its night watchman: tricorn hat, halberd, lantern and horn. The round starts at 21:00, December 1–23 and 26–30, and on the 31st the watchman goes out at midnight. Records of watchmen in the town go back to 1540; the post disappeared in 1939, and the rounds were revived in 1953. Today several night watchmen keep the tradition going. Along the way he sings, in Alsatian, the old song watchmen once used to call the hour: "Watch your fire and your candle." One catch: the round starts after the last shuttle has left Turckheim, so the way back is by train, by taxi, or with a night in town.

Ribeauvillé

A medieval Christmas market (Marché de Noël médiéval), on just two weekends.

Getting there: shuttle lines 1 and 2, stop at the bus parking lot. The regular FLUO 68R016 bus goes there too.

Three more markets

Bergheim's market is held inside medieval walls, among winegrowers' houses from the 15th to 17th centuries. The season is short, but the second part starts midweek, and on weekdays the market doesn't open until 16:00: this is an evening market. There's no Christmas shuttle; from Colmar, the regular line 17 bus runs via Ribeauvillé.

Neuf-Brisach hosts the Marché de Noël 1700: participants in period costume, and a reconstructed village showing old crafts and everyday life in Vauban's time. Shuttle line 5 runs only on the Saturday and Sunday; on the Friday, when the market is already open, take the regular FLUO 68R026 bus Colmar – Breisach to the stop at the Porte de Bâle.

Munster hosts its "market in the heart of the mountains": figures from Alsatian Christmas tradition among the chalets, Munster cheese soup on certain days, and concerts. The TER train runs there on the Colmar–Metzeral line, and Friday to Sunday there's shuttle line 4.

Navettes de Noël: how the Christmas shuttles work

The Christmas shuttles leave from Colmar's train station and run from November 27 to December 20, 2026. A ticket is good all day: get on and off as often as you like.

Tickets are sold online only. Sales open on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 12:00 Central European Time. You can't buy them from the driver. Seats are limited each day; three days before each date, a small extra batch of tickets is released.

The full ticket at €17 is valid on all lines. The €10 "Explorer" works only on lines 4 and 5, meaning Turckheim, Munster and Neuf-Brisach. Children under 12 ride free, but you still have to book a ticket for them.

How often. Lines 1 and 2 leave hourly on Fridays and every half hour on Saturdays and Sundays. Line 4 runs hourly. There are four departures a day to Eguisheim on weekdays and five Friday to Sunday. The full timetable is on the official page; it's long and changes from year to year.

Good to know. The shuttles use ordinary roads, so December traffic can cause delays. They're for individual travelers only: groups aren't taken on board.

Tickets are sold only on the official Noël à Colmar website.

How to plan the day

A handy plan: spend the first half of the day in Colmar, then take a shuttle out to one or more villages after lunch. In Kaysersberg, as in Colmar, the lights come on at nightfall.

Friday to Sunday. After lunch, shuttle line 1: Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, and back to Colmar. Line 2 runs the same loop the other way. The last line 1 bus gets back to Colmar station at 20:30; the last line 2 bus at 20:45 on weekends and 20:55 on Fridays.

A weekday evening by shuttle. On weekdays the only village you can reach by shuttle is Eguisheim: the last line 3 bus leaves Colmar at 18:30, and the return leaves Eguisheim at 19:00. Riquewihr is open on weekdays too, but you get there on the regular FLUO bus, on its own timetable. And in early December Bergheim's evening market opens, also served by a regular bus.

No shuttle at all. Turckheim and Munster are both served by the Colmar–Metzeral TER line, so you can reach them by train even after December 20, when the shuttle season is over.

Common date mistakes

Showing up for the shuttle without a ticket. Shuttle tickets are sold online only; you can't buy them from the driver.

Heading to Kaysersberg on a weekday. The market is open Friday to Sunday only, and no shuttles go there on weekdays.

Planning Eguisheim for Christmas. The market is closed December 24–26.

Counting on a shuttle after December 20. The shuttle season ends that day; after that it's train, regular bus or car.

Not booking a ticket for a child. Under-12s ride free, but without a booking there's no seat.

Waiting for the night watchman, then the shuttle. The Turckheim round starts at 21:00; the last shuttle leaves earlier.
